SHIP SECURITY OFFICER (SSO, IMO MODEL COURSE 3.19)
WHAT IS A SHIP SECURITY OFFICER?
A Ship Security Officer (SSO) is the person who is responsible to the captain of a merchant ship which is trading internationally, for the implementation and maintenance of the Ship Security Plan. The SSO’s duties include liaison and cooperation with Company Security Officers and Port Facility Security Officers, in order to maintain ship security during ship/port or ship-to-ship interfaces.
WHO NEEDS THIS TRAINING?
International regulations require that you must do Ship Security Officer Training
if you are a seafarer who has been, or has the prospect of being, appointed as the Ship Security Officer on a merchant vessel trading internationally.
Some private maritime security companies providing security for ships transiting high risk areas, also require their team leaders to successfully complete the Ship Security Officer (SSO) course.
